Let’s explore the journey of Tom Wyles, his company, and the remarkable legacy they’ve built.

A Journey Rooted in Passion for the NorthwoodsTomahawk log home
Tom Wyles’ love for the Northwoods began early in life. Born in Milwaukee and raised in New Berlin, he spent every possible moment up north, captivated by the pine-scented air and rustic charm of log homes. In 1976, Tom purchased property to build his dream home, a move that sparked a lifelong passion for construction.

By 1978, he had become a log cabin dealer and took on various part-time jobs to learn trades like welding. In 1986, he officially founded Tomahawk Log & Country Homes Inc., and his career took off, blending his love for the outdoors with his talent for building.

Partnering with Amwood Building Systems

Over the years, their paths crossed at numerous events, and Tom was introduced to panelized component building. Tom said, “Our booths always seemed to be close to each other.”

In 2013, after exploring other component companies, Tom chose Amwood for its in-house drafting services and streamlined engineering. Since then, Tomahawk Log & Country Homes has built nearly 40 homes with Amwood, leveraging their panelized components to save time, protect homes from harsh weather, and increase yearly production.

“Our homes aren’t full-log homes,” Tom explains. “We use a hybrid construction with conventional 2” x 6” framing and insulation, adding hewn log or rough saw siding to the shell for a more rustic look while exceeding all codes and meeting financing requirements.”

Marketing: From Print to Personal Connections

Today, Tomahawk Log & Country Homes benefit from a mix of online presence, word-of-mouth referrals, and their custom designed showroom. Tom estimates that 30-40% of his business is word of mouth and the remaining is based off of his marketing efforts.
